Salt River

The Salt River is just east of the Phoenix Metro area and is stocked weekly with trout. But, the most attractive thing about this river are the suckers and carp. Where else can you sight fish to big Sonora and Desert Suckers along with some of the biggest common carp around. It is a trifecta of fun. There are also bass around that love eating small nymphs, emergers and dries.

This past week, I took a trip with Nancy, Todd, Craig, Chris, and Kyle. It was a fun day as you can see from the video.

For the suckers and carp, I typically use a double nymph rig under a strike indicator. I use tungsten weighted flies so that there are drifting across the bottom. Flies of choice were red or pink worm patterns and small nymphs with red tails.

I hope you enjoy the video and send me a message to let me know how you like to fish the Salt River.
